Man stranded on West Kirby Marine Lake
A windsurfer had to be rescued by a West Kirby lifeboat team today after becoming stranded on the marine lake.
Now the coastguard is advising people to go windsurfing in groups if the conditions resemble today's high winds and big tides.
Ironically though, it is the windy conditions that attract windsurfers to West Kirby Marine Lake in the first place.
It has water on three sides and is known for its strong breezes from the Irish Sea making it a haven for "Windcatchers".
Set on the very tip of the Peninsula with views of the Welsh Hills and the Dee Estuary, this man-made saltwater lake attracts surfers from all over the country.
It is 52 acres in size, five foot deep and totally enclosed.
However the man who needed to be rescued today had become so exhausted by the strength of the wind and tide, that he had become stranded on the lake wall.
Luckily he got back to dry land unscathed.
