More election preparations
WALLASEY'S Liberal Democrats have selected Steve Pitt - president of Wallasey Liberal Democrats - to be their candidate for Wallasey in the next General Election.
The release accompanying the announcement says he was born and brought up in Wallasey; attending Egerton Grove Primary School and Wallasey Technical Grammar School.
It now completes the selections by the three main parties, with Labour's Angela Eagle defending her seat and Leah Fraser the Conservative challenger.
The release from Mr Pitt describes how he served in the British Army for 15 years before returning to Wallasey with his family.
It continues: "Since leaving the army Steve has worked in electrical installation, warehouse management and as day supervisor for adults with autism.
"After recovering from a serious motorcycle accident in 2001, Steve graduated with a joint honours degree in Politics and History from John Moore's University and a Masters degree in Twentieth Century History from the University of Liverpool.
"When not involved in politics, Steve has a passion for the game of cricket; he also has an interest in photography and cinema, and is an enthusiastic reader of history."
No stranger to campaigning, Mr Pitt has previously stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Seacombe Ward since 2004, and in 2009 stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the Moreton West & Saughall Massie By-Election.
However, he has some way to go to make up the ground on his oppoenents. The Lib-Dems have no councillors in Wallasey - the only constituency in Wirral where they have no representation on the local authority, and they were far off the running in the 2005 election.
Then Labour's Angela Eagle won with 20,085 votes, followed by Conservative's Leah Fraser with 10,976, (a significant majority of 9,109 for Labour). The Liberal Democrat candidate Joanna Lesley Pemberton had 4,770 votes (followed by Philip William Barrington Griffiths who polled 840 for UKIP) on a turnout of 57.6%.
